The world is a troubled place these days. With our connection to the media at our very finger tips, we tend to hear bad news all the time. Unrest here, death there, natural disaster across the world, financial crisis everywhere, and the list goes on. We get the news in our inboxes and updates on our phones. Is it any wonder that the advertising world has begun to use humour as a way to market products to the public? People like to laugh and smile and if a company can get people to laugh, smile, AND associate that feeling with their product or service, then they are one-step ahead of the competition when the consumer wants to make a purchase.

It seems that these days, almost every business in the world uses some sort of banner stand in the attempt to advertise with the public. In such a world, many things can cause your banner to blend in with the cacophony of advertising that is attempted via banner stands and their associated media. Whether one suffers by comparison to the more expensive roll up banners used by a competitor, or if it is too similar to another’s ad campaign, you end up with a potentially confused consumer and possibly helping your competitor instead of yourself.

One thing I’ve noticed when attending local trade shows is how effective some booth proprietors are as they deal with the public. Business owners often hire professional sales persons to staff their trade show exhibit booths. Some are better than others at the fine art of persuasion, never letting on that they are there to “sell” but rather merely to demonstrate. It’s in the signage!

Traditionally, people have purchased various size, types, and shapes of banner stands or pop up stands to help make their business more known to the consumer. While there is nothing wrong with this type of advertising what-so-ever, this method of advertisement has become the standard or the norm and people are beginning to see past them.
